Our Aquaponics Farm is Here!
After two years of planning, our aquaponics farm has started to become a reality.
In the middle of February 2022, we began the work necessary to prepare for the building and installation of our aquaponics farm. Our first task was to move the electric transformer which sat in the middle of the two acres where our aquaponics modules will be built. This process began in October, 2021 when we contacted Eskom, the national electricity provider, to evaluate the work needed to move the transformer to the eastern edge of the property, and then paid, in advance, for the cost of the move. Five months later, after several delays, and over a period of several days, the old transformer was removed, and a new transformer installed along the eastern perimeter fence. Prior to moving the transformer we had to dig a trench about 450’ long from the location of the new transformer to the location of the old transformer, prepare the surface, and lay the electric cable which would deliver power back to our power room, located near the old transformer. We also took the opportunity to lay a main water pipe in this trench which will facilitate future developments planned for the campus.
